To All,
Our sincere thanks to all our customers for their support in making
The Book of Wisdom the #1 book this
month. I was right to insist that Urban Lit. does not define who we are at
the present time. Although it drives the market, we must not lose sight of
the greater responsibility we have as book purveyors to educate and inform
our readers. Congratulations to Lushena Books and Luther Warner for the
great books published this year, to Camara for
Holy Lockdown, which is a must read and to
Amiaya Entertainment for their steadfast in
nourishing young readers in the community. Finally, congratulations to all
in the Black Publishing community for what you have accomplished within a
very short period and with very little resources. You have all proven that a
mind is a terrible thing to waste.
To Our Vendors:
As I drive around the streets of New York, I cannot but marvel at the
strength and resilience that you show daily in serving the educational needs
of our people. Through rain and heat, you push books and educational
materials.
While
I salute you, I must bring to your attention the need to focus not only on
what the street is asking for, but also on the books that we as book vendors
must bring to the attention of our people; books such as Before the
Mayflower, Black Wallstreet, Girls Hold Up this World, I know why the Caged
bird Sings, Think and Grow Rich, Soul on Ice and more. While books on
entertainment such as Zane's Addicted, or Triple Crowns, Whore, or Teri
Woods Dutch series are driving the market, we owe it to the reading public
to, at least make them aware of these other publications.
Finally, the 2006 summer
reading list is out and please ask us for great uplifting books for our
children.
