Dear Editor,
I was impressed by the press release and the goals you
outlined for it in your publications. As a young African American aspiring
author I have wondered why nobody is reporting on the numerous writers in
our community, and why we end up reading about the same people over and over
again. Let me tell you that I will make sure that my friends know about your
magazine so that they too can support you. Keep up the good work.

Dear Editor,
Let me first congratulate you for taking this bold step
to issue the Black Book News. I am disappointed, however, that you chose to
feature a failing African American business in Harlem. There are many
reasons for this failure and it’s not simply due to the gentrification
that’s going on. This particular operation that you featured had no chance
at all because we black people still go to Office Depot and Staples for our
supplies rather than support a community-based business. I would like to
read more about solutions and not just about problems. The changes that are
currently taking place in Harlem are a good thing and a wake up call for
Black America.

Dear Editor,
A friend told me about your great magazine and
immediately I sent in my subscription. I would like to see more children’s
books reviews and less attention paid to books on so-called black erotica.
As a schoolteacher, I have observed that we don’t have enough children’s
books for our children and it’s time a community-based magazine did
something about it. Please make it a point to report regularly on new books
for children perhaps by establishing a special Children’s book section in
your magazine.

Dear Editor,
Congratulations on your publication. I like to see a
magazine like yours dedicated to new and upcoming authors published by Black
Publishers. The books out there are corruption our children because they are
consumption oriented in their values and present ideals of a strictly
private happiness and well-being without any concern for other people or the
broader social issues. We need more positive and progressive magazines to
highlight authors like those that you feature.

Dear Editor,
Thank you for all the reviews. My thanks to you and your
staff for doing such a wonderful job with your magazine. Black cannot and
will not remain silent anymore. We are all indebted to you for providing us
with a forum via Black Book News, and for your efforts toward raising the
cultural level of the community.
