BiBLIOS 2001 was a success. The plaza was filled with booklovers both Greeks and
non-Greeks to enjoy the literary presence of Greece in New York. The event was attended by the Consul General of Cyprus and Greece, and
also attended by Mr. Patroclos Stavrou of the Kazantzakis Foundation with a display of a rare picture of Kazantzakis, the renowned writer who gave us Zorba the Greek, the Last Temptation of Christ and many more. Also in attendance was Nicholas Gage, author of Eleni and Greek Fire.
Many Greek American writers were on stage to read their works and to recite works of famous
authors like Kavafi, Ritsos and Seferis. The most memorable booth was the booth
dedicated to the Olympic Games which highlighted the games from antiquity to the present in an
elaborate display by Constantinos Sirracos, a lawyer from Athens. He presented icons, books and memorabilia which covers the Olympic Games. American authors who participated with displays of their books and products were Seaburn Books, Mason & kpuff
Publishing, Association of Hellenic Educators, Hellenic College Press, Peter Lang Publishing and many more.
We would like to thank all those who worked tirelessly for the success of the
event especially, Eleni Paidoussi, Anna Giannetakis, Tyra Mason, Andreas Bratos,
George Delis, president of community board #1 and others. We are looking forward to BiBLIOS 2002 and
the success it will bring to the literary community and businesses of Astoria.
We hope you will continue to support and sponsor our programs.
