INVITATION TO AUTHORS
Re: BLACK BOOKS PLUS 2001:
INTERNATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL CELEBRATING THE LITERARY CONTRIBUTIONS OF PEOPLE OF
COLOR
Dear
Author:
On September 2, 2001, The House of the Lord
Pentecostal Church in conjunction with Paedeia Educational Promotions will
present Black Books Plus 2001 (BBP 2001), a one-day book and family festival
along Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
Brooklyn is the demographic representation of “the New York Melting Pot”. Within
its borders and surrounding vicinity are communities that represent the
world’s ethnicities and languages, a populace of more than Five Million
people. Our endeavor is to make
reading a vibrant part of every child’s routine, by forming Black Book Plus
into an open air book and family festival, a market place of ideas and books,
the meeting point of publishers, distributors and writers of all genres.
BBP 2001 will comprise a one block exhibition area of vendors within the publishing industry, the industry’s supporting and inter-related enterprises, exhibiting books, art, computer software, internet services audio and video products to celebrate the plethora of books and learning materials for the African Diaspora.
This endeavor cannot be a success without the participation of Black Writers, whose literary work is deserving of mainstream distribution, yet is under recognized in today’s publishing market. While there are a few names that stand out as representative of African American writers, there are many other authors who are seeking the same opportunity. The events surrounding BBP 2001 are geared towards bringing awareness to the plethora of black books published each year in the United States and around the world.
Thus I am inviting you to appear at Black Books 2001, to read and sign your book; to speak to up-and-coming Authors about your experiences as an Author. Your participation will be invaluable.
Kindly confirm your availability by contacting PEP at Tel: (718) 274-7040. If you cannot attend, please send your book(s) or product for display at no charge or obligation.
Lend your voice to this great cause. Call early to register.
Sincerely yours,
Reverend Herbert D. Daughtry,
The House of the Lord Pentecostal Church
