Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. September 2, 2001.

Brooklyn is the demographic representation of  “the New York Melting Pot”.  Within its borders and surrounding vicinity are communities that represent the world’s ethnicities and languages, a populace of more than Five Million people. 

 Our endeavor is to make reading a vibrant part of every child’s routine, by forming Black Book Plus into an open air book and family festival, a market place of ideas and books, the meeting point of publishers, distributors and writers of all genres.

 BBP 2001 will comprise a one-block exhibition area for vendors within the publishing industry, a reading stage for Adults, and a decorated Children’s corner to entertain and stimulate our children.

Among the invited Authors included:

TERRY MACMILLAN,  JULIA BOYD, TONY BROWN, IYANLA VANZANT, CHINUA ACHEBE, GIOVANI NIKKI, LEVAR BURTON , JEFFERY RENARD ALLEN,

The events will focus on serving readers with information and books about People of Color and on stimulating young readers’ interest in books. Cultural and Community awareness is a great part of this fair.

Book presentations and readings will begin on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a seminar on how to publish your book. Participants will include first time Authors, Literary Agents and Publishers.
 

These events are free and open to the general public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to participate in the READ ALOUD NYTM Program. Talents in the community would be recognized with awards and publishing contracts.
